Adidas and Me

May 9, 2020

by Evelyn Kampen

So I’m going to let you in on a little obsession of mine – the history behind the famous sportswear company Adidas. I read the book “Sneaker Wars” as a teenager and have been fascinated with the brand ever since. Adidas has a deeply rooted connection with sport and I feel very influenced by its origin story.

Today – Adidas is the largest sportswear company in Europe and the 2nd largest in the world (after Nike, thanks to Michael Jordan). To give you some perspective – Nike takes in a profit of 37 billion a year, with Adidas following at 26 billion. Smaller brands like Underarmour and Puma take in around 5 billion. Nike has 73000 employees and Adidas has 57000. Needless to say, Nike and Adidas are huge influencers in the sporting world. Read More →

Well being for the week of April 27

April 27, 2020

Wellbeing or Wellness?

We keep being asked why we use the term wellbeing.  For us, we use wellbeing because it takes us beyond health. Websters defines wellbeing as “the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy” For us being healthy and happy is key to a good life.

Wellbeing for the Week

  • Monday-Head over to MindWell U for a drop-in meditation session.
  • Tuesday-check in on a co-worker or classmate.  Ask them how they are doing. Social distancing doesn’t mean isolation.
  • Wednesday-Challenge a friend or family member to the game of Yahtzee.  Here is the online version
  • Thursday-Seems like a good day to take in a TED Talk. Stir your curiosity!
  • Friday-Take part in our online yoga class at 1230 or head out for your first 1K, 3K, 5K walk, run or ride as part of our Virtual 1K, 3K, 5K walk, run or ride.

Give thanks this Thursday!

April 20, 2020

Thank you. It’s amazing how two words can impact a person so much.    By reaching out to say thank you to someone you brighten their day, and let them know how much you appreciate them.  It’s a way of showing gratitude for small and big acts of kindness and compassion.

This Thursday Recreation Services wants to help our students and staff say thanks.

It could be for helping you move last year, helping you complete that project or even letting you cut in line at Tim’s.  It could be for just smiling and saying good morning.

So let us help you say thanks. Send Recreation Services their name and what they did for you, we will recognize them on our social media and send them a small thank you gift on behalf of you and Recreation Services. We do have a limited number of gifts so be sure to get yours in soon by emailing rebels@rrc.ca.
