About SERC

We are excited to collaborate with SERC! SERC is a community-based, non-profit, pro-choice organization that is dedicated to promoting sexual health through education.

SERC’s origins go as far back as the suffragist movement, when the Winnipeg Birth Control Society was founded in 1934 by three visionary women: Mary Speechly, Olive Patton, and Margaret Hillsman. In 1952. they were named the “Family Planning Society of Winnipeg” and eventually became “Planned Parenthood Manitoba Inc.” in 1976. SERC has sister organizations in Brandon and Portage La Prairie. In 1997, Planned Parenthood Manitoba was renamed the “Sexuality Education Resource Centre”.

SERC’s mission is to “promote sexual health through education” and their vision is “a diverse society that celebrates sexuality through life”. To learn more about SERC visit their website!

RRC Polytech campuses are located on the lands of Anishinaabe, Ininiwak, Anishininew, Dakota, and Dené, and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
