Radon is Getting Attention

December 8, 2014

Radon was talked about a number of years ago. It seemed to be the concern of the month. But as time went by, the talk went silent and so did the concern so it seemed. Unfortunately, the radon hadn’t gone away. The colourless, odourless, radioactive gas that can be a silent and slow killer is still found in a high number of homes in Manitoba according to a 2012 Health Canada study. In a recent news article (Westman Homes Rank Highest, 2014), radon is still exists and in record numbers in this province.

Although there are test kits available at local hardware stores, how reliable are they and what do the home/building owners do if they test positive and above the limit? Proper testing for radon and the mitigation planning and installation requires training and certification. The Canadian – National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP), provides the certification program for training professionals in radon services.

There is a short supply of certified radon specialists in Manitoba. As a result, C-NRPP has partnered with Red River College to provide the Measurement and the Mitigation Certification courses. The training dates are coming up quickly. Please take a look and consider whether radon measurement and mitigation services will fit into your business.
