Anterior Nasal Swab Registration Page
RRC Polytech is offering a course centred on anterior nasal swab sample collection, which is an important part of identifying individuals with COVID-19 to assist in the pandemic response.
The two-hour online course trains individuals on safe sample collection procedures. This will include a review of COVID-19 and its causative agent, the anatomy and physiology of the anterior nares and best practices when working with samples.

Student Learning
By the end of this course of study, you should be able to:
- Describe COVID-19 and its causative agent SARS-CoV-2
- Explain how it’s transmitted and identify the most common signs and symptoms
- Locate the relevant components of the nares for anterior nasal sample collection.
- Identify issues associated with swabbing the area of the anterior nares.
- Recognize infectious disease transmission factors and public health measures that are important to consider when performing hand hygiene to adhere to principles of infection prevention and control for COVID-19 testing
- Identify the steps for proper hand hygiene as per public health measures and principles of infection prevention and control as applicable
- Identify the rationale for using anterior nasal swabs to identify the presence of SARS-CoV-2
- Apply knowledge of the theory and principles underlying performance of anterior nasal swab according to evidence-based practices
- Identify steps for safe acquisition of anterior nasal sample for COVID-19 testing
- Identify safe handling and storage of samples due to the potential risk to self and others
- Interpret the test to determine validity and results
