News Widget in LEARN

The News tool enables you to create news items that help communicate course updates, changes, and new information to your users quickly and effectively. Since My Home or Course Home is the first page that users often see when they log in or access their courses, the News widget is a good area for displaying important information.

 

How to Create a News item:

  1. Access your course and from the News Tool(1) widget menu, click New News Item(2).
  2. Enter a Headline(1) and Content(2) for the news item.
  3. When authoring the news post you will have access to many formatting options(3). Hover over the individual icons to see what they do.
  4. Once you have composed your News post scroll down to see additional options:
  • In the Start Date and End Date fields, select the posting availability date. News items publish immediately unless you specify an alternate start date from Start Date.

Note: Post-dated News items do not display in the News tool widget even if users have permission to see future News items. They can be found within the list of News items on the News tool page.

  • In the Attachments section, add attachments, audio recordings, and video recordings as part of your News item.
  • To include additional release conditions, click Attach Existing or Create and Attach.
  • To continue editing the News item, click Save as Draft. Students cannot see draft News items. To release News item to users, click Publish.
