LEARN – Creating a Discussion Topic

A Discussion board will have one or more Forums within it. Below Forums there are Topics and within Topics are discussion Threads.

To create a new Discussion Topic you must first have a Forum to post it within.

• Access Discussions by clicking “Communication” and “Discussions“
• Click “New” and “New Topic”
  
• Select the Forum you wish to create the topic in
  
• Give it a Title
• Scroll to the bottom of the page and apply any Options
• Return to the top of the page and select Restrictions
  • Apply any restrictions including availability start and end date
  • Locking Options (visible, but locked)
  • Release conditions
  • Group restrictions
• Return to the top of the page and click Assessment if you wish to grade the students posts.
  • Apply a grade item so the grades transfer automatically to the grade book
  • Indicate the “Score Out Of”
  • Attach a Rubric for assessment
• Once done, click “Save and Close” or “Save and New”
