Are You Ready For Bike Week?

Bike Week Winnipeg starts Monday, June 17th and goes all week in celebration of riding bikes, in Winnipeg! To kick off a full week of events, The Sustainability Office is excited to be back at Omand’s Creek during Bike to Work Day for the 3rd year in a row! Pit Stops will be set up around the City to offer repairs, treats and activities to cyclists on their way to work.

Mark your calendars and test your brakes because these events are coming in fast!


Bike to Work Day Pit Stop

Date: Monday, June 17
Time: 6:30am – 9:00 am
Location: North side of Omand’s Creek Walking Bridge

About: Join us on the northside of the Omand’s Creek Footbridge (see map) while you cycle your way to work. Stop by, fuel up and join the fun. Want to visit more than one? Check out the full map of pit stops here.

  • Coffee, water, fruit and tasty baked treats
  • Tools and expertise to help with minor on-the-go repairs, maintenance and questions
  • Music and mingling
  • Prize draw
  • Swag and giveaways

The A-B-C’s of Cycling

Date: Tuesday, June 18
Time: 12pm – 1pm
Location: D-E-F Courtyard (change of location weather permitting)

About: Wondering what state your bike is in but aren’t able to bring it to a mechanic? Sign up and bring your bike in to the first A-B-C’s of Cycling Workshop hosted by Daniel Enns! Here you will learn how to evaluate the condition of your bike, perform basic maintenance, and determine if your bike needs more professional help! These are the A-B-C’s that will be covered:

Air: tire condition, inflation, removal, installation

Brakes: check operation, cable adjustment

Chain: cleaning, lubrication, roadside repair of broken chain


‘Bike It’ Course

Date: Wednesday, June 19
Time: 5pm – 9pm
Location: NDC Campus – Room TBD

About:  Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, a two-wheeled newbie or are interested in biking but feel too intimidated to share the road with cars, we can all benefit from more cycling knowledge! ‘Bike It’ is a course developed and offered through Manitoba Public Insurance. It is a two part course that will include an in-class portion and on-road lessons to give you a clear overview of cycling safety and best practices.

*All staff and their family members are welcome to sign up (*16 and older)

*Must bring a bike and helmet


Group Bike to Sargent Sundae

Date: Friday, June 21
Time: 12pm – 1:30pm
Location: Meet at NDC Bus Loop – Ride to Sargent Sundae

About: Join us for a guided, leisurely round-trip group ride Friday afternoon to Sargent Sundae (*cash only). Departing from the NDC bus loop at 12:00 pm, returning 1:30 pm. Can’t bike to work Friday? No problem! Check out Recreation Services Bike Share Program and borrow a bike for the ride!
