Information Technology Solutions will be performing maintenance to equipment that handles the main college internet connection. This work will be completed on Sunday, February 11^th . Work will begin at 10:00am and should be completed by 12:00pm.

During this maintenance window there is expected to be 2 brief interruptions, lasting between 5-10 minutes each, to all internet based resources. Affected systems will include, but are not limited to, Learn, Office365, Email, Sharepoint, Hub, VPN, and Internet access to and from the college.

Affected campuses will include Notre Dame Campus, The Exchange District Campus, Portage Campus, Steinbach Campus, Winkler Campus, LTC Campus, and Stevenson Aviation (Winnipeg Campus).

Red River College, along with Peterbilt Motors Company, is opening a new section of the successful Peterbilt Technical Institute (PTI). The first class of PTI have a 100% employment rate as certified technicians for Peterbilt Motors Company.

PTI is a manufacturer-paid training program offered to graduates from RRC’s Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic program and Peterbilt employees who are interested in advancing their skills and training to become a certified Peterbilt technician.

This program allows the students to gain experience in all aspects of the work done at a Peterbilt dealership. Peterbilt Motors Company supplies the curriculum, laptops for the students, three trucks, two engines and specialized tools to help ensure the students’ success in becoming confident in their skills and career-ready by the end of the 12-week session. Peterbilt also trains RRC instructors to deliver the program at the College.

Red River College will again operate on restricted holiday hours, effective 4:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 22, 2017.

During the break, general access to the Notre Dame and Exchange District Campuses will be limited to the following hours:

• Dec. 23, 2017: Regular hours until 4:00 p.m.
• Dec. 24-26, 2017: Closed (no access)
• Dec. 27-31, 2017: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Jan. 1, 2018: Closed (no access)
• Jan. 2, 2018: Resume regular hours, effective 7:00 a.m.

Lab access at the Notre Dame and Exchange District Campuses during the above hours will be limited to the classroom labs listed below. Today, Red River College opened registration for two new Anishinaabemowin language and culture courses, created to support Indigenous language revitalization in Manitoba schools.

The new courses are the first of their kind to be offered by RRC, and will be delivered through a partnership between its Schools of Indigenous Education and Continuing Education.

The Introduction to Anishinaabemowin Language and Culture course — geared to non- or semi-fluent speakers — begins in February 2018, while the Level 2 course for intermediate and fluent speakers starts in the spring.

Both will be offered on a part-time basis to K-12 educators in the province, and to anyone else who may be interested.

“As a College, we are taking the lead to provide more opportunities for educators to gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous language and identity, and to continue to strengthen partnerships with Indigenous learners in our community,” says Rebecca Chartrand, RRC’s Executive Director, Indigenous Strategy.

Sharon Steward’s cooking is a real crowd-pleaser — and her new cookbook is sure to be, too.

A Continuing Education instructor at Red River College, Steward is busy prepping for the launch of Volume: Cooking for a Community on Sat., Dec. 2, at McNally Robinson Booksellers.

The book is inspired by Steward’s role as the kitchen manager and head chef at InterVarsity Pioneer Camp Manitoba, a Christian summer camp located on MacKinnon Island at the north end of Shoal Lake.

During camp season, Steward and her staff are responsible for serving three meals a day (plus snacks) to anywhere from 180 to 200 people at a time. Suffice it to say, she knows how to cook for a crowd.

“Each recipe in the book has an amount for four to six people, and then also for about 80 servings,” Steward explains. “It’s a very exciting tool — one I’m hoping a lot of other places, facilities and individuals can use to help them serve their communities.”

Steve Thompson has been a Project Management instructor (in IT and Professional Studies) for the last 12 years, and has been instrumental in the development of the Project Management Fundamentals course content.

As of this term, he has now taught 2,000 students in the Project Management Fundamentals course alone.

2017 graduating class, Peterbilt Technician Institute

All six students enrolled in the first class of a specialized mechanics and technology course will walk out the doors of Red River College and into new careers as certified technicians for Peterbilt Motors Company.

The students are graduates of the new Peterbilt Technician Institute (PTI), launched in partnership with the College earlier this year. The Institute is a manufacturer-paid training initiative offered to graduates of RRC’s Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic program, and to those interested in advancing their skills to become certified Peterbilt technicians.

For Alexandra Pratt, the experience means getting her foot in the door of a great career.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to get started in a career with such a well-known and reputable company,” ays Pratt. “I learned so much through this program, and would recommend it to anyone looking to start a career with the Peterbilt family.”

The six students were the first to complete the comprehensive training program, earning ten key certifications to earn their designation as Peterbilt Master Technicians.
