MFA Setup Instructions

RRC Polytech uses multi-factor authentication (MFA) to provide an extra layer of security for your RRC account. With multi-factor authentication, in addition to your RRC user name and password, a time-limited verification code is required when you log on to Microsoft 365 services, Outlook desktop and mobile clients, Microsoft Teams, and HUB. If a hacker were to steal your password, it would be difficult for them to access your account without that verification code.

Once you log on using multi-factor authentication, you will not receive another prompt for a verification code unless you completely sign out or change your password.

Students who do not have access to a smart phone

Microsoft Authenticator MFA setup instructions

These Microsoft Authenticator instructions are for both staff and students.

1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone from iOS App Store or from Google Play Store.
2. On a computer, click this RRC Polytech multi-factor authentication link, enter your RRC email address, following the examples below, and then click Next.
   

   Staff	Student

   NOTE: You will not be prompted to sign in if you already logged on prior to using these instructions. Proceed to Step 4.
3. On the RRC Polytech active directory sign in window, enter your RRC password, following the examples below, (your RRC email address should have automatically populated in the user name field), and then click Sign in.
   

   Staff	Student

   NOTE: If prompted to Stay signed in, click No to help reduce risk and improve the security of your account.
4. On the More information required window, following the examples below, (your RRC email address should have automatically populated in the user name field), and then click Next.
   

   Staff	Student

5. Click Next.
   
6. Click Next again.
   
7. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app that you had downloaded onto your device in Step 1, and then follow the instructions below for your specific iOS or Android device.

For your iOS device:

1. On your Microsoft authenticator app on your phone, click the + at the top right-hand side of the screen.
2. Select Work or school account.
3. Point your phone camera at the QR code on the Add account window that opened on your computer, to scan the image.
   
4. Click Next on your computer, click Approve on your device.
5. On your computer screen you will receive a time sensitive number, enter that number on the MFA app on your phone.
6. On your computer click Next to complete the process.

Congratulations!

At this point you will have successfully configured MFA on your RRC Polytech account.

For your Android device:

1. On the Microsoft authenticator app on your phone, click the 3 dots at the top right-hand side of screen.
2. Select Work or school account.
3. Point your phone camera at the QR code on the Configure mobile app window that opened on your computer, to scan the image.
   
4. Click Next on your computer, click Approve on your device.
5. On your computer screen you will receive a time sensitive number, enter that number on the MFA app on your phone.
   
6. On your computer click Next to complete the process.
   

Congratulations!

At this point you will have successfully configured MFA on your RRC Polytech account.
