National Indigenous Languages Day 2026

March 31, 2026

Today we celebrate National Indigenous Languages Day – a time to honour the living languages that carry culture, history, and ways of knowing across generations.

One of those languages is Anishinaabemowin, spoken throughout Anishinaabe Nations across this land. Language is connection to community, to place, and to identity.

To mark the day, we invite you to watch a video of two language instructors sharing a conversation in Anishinaabemowin – a beautiful reminder of what it means to hear language spoken, lived, and passed on. The video will be posted tomorrow!

You can also learn more about our Anishinaabemowin course offered at the Portage Campus, and how language learning plays a role in reconciliation, revitalization, and respect in article that will be released later this week.

Today, and every day, we celebrate Indigenous languages and the people who keep them strong. Check back here for regular highlights about Anishinaabemowin at the Polytech.

RRC Polytech campuses are located on the lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anishininwak, Dakota Oyate, and Denésuline, and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

We recognize and honour Treaty 3 Territory Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, the source of Winnipeg’s clean drinking water. In addition, we acknowledge Treaty Territories which provide us with access to electricity we use in both our personal and professional lives.
