Communication for Professional Practice for Internationally Educated Nurses
Program Overview
Communication for Professional Practice for Internationally Educated Nurses (CPP-IENs) is a fully online, for-credit course designed to help internationally educated nurses build the communication skills needed for professional nursing practice in Canada.
Through lectures, case study discussions, role-plays, and applied practice activities, learners develop the skills and confidence to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. The course focuses on patient-centred communication, culturally safe care, collaborative practice, conflict resolution, and professional interactions in Canadian healthcare settings.
This course provides 6 credit hours and can support learners pursuing either the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) pathway in Manitoba.

Meets twice weekly, 3 hours per class. Classes are synchronous, online.

- This course does not replace the English Language Requirements required by the College of Nursing for licensure

CPP-IENs is recognized by:
- Assiniboine College as equivalent to COMM-0038, the required course in the Practical Nurse Qualification Re-Entry (PNQR) program for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
- RRC Polytech as equivalent to COMM-1206, the required communication course in the Nurse Re-Entry Program (NREP) for Registered Nurses (RNs)
Course Requirements
Equipment
A computer with a webcam, internet access, printer, plus a good-quality headset and microphone.
English Level
CLB 7/7/7/7 minimum (Individuals with a CLB 6 in one skill area may be considered)
Language Assessment
Applicants must present a result of a recent language assessment (WELARC or other official language exam, i.e. IELTS, CELPIP, CELBAN).
