Red Talks: Real Engagement in Dialogue

The Centre for Newcomer Integration (CNI) is introducing RED Talks — a new, student-focused event that helps learners build confidence using English in real-world settings. 

RED Talks features short, live presentations followed by small-group discussions. The event introduces students to content-based, lecture-style learning in an interactive environment where they can share ideas, explore new perspectives, and connect through meaningful communication. 

Event Details 

Date: Wednesday, November 19, 2025 
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 PM 
Location: Dining Hall, Exchange District Campus (160 Princess St.) 
Cost: Free for CNI students and staff 

What to Expect 

The evening will feature: 

  • Short live presentations from inspiring speakers who will share their stories and insights 
  • Facilitated small-group discussions where students can practice English, ask questions, and engage with the topics presented 
  • A supportive, student-centered environment designed specifically for language learners 

“RED Talks supports language development through authentic experiences,” said Jesse Friesen, Program Implementation Coordinator at CNI. “It’s an opportunity for students to see English as a tool for connection, confidence, and opportunity in their lives in Canada.” 

Speakers 

The evening will include presentations from Rebecca Molly Hiebert, Jhocelin Gilbert, and Juanita DeSouza-Huletey, each offering insights that encourage reflection and dialogue. 

Rebecca Molly Hiebert 

Topic: How AI Will Change Our Future 

Rebecca works at RRC Polytech. She helps people learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is computer technology that can think and learn like people. 

Before this job, Rebecca was a teacher and had her own business. Rebecca will talk about AI and how it will change our lives and work in the future. 

Jhocelin Gilbert 

Topic: My Story of Coming to Canada and Reaching My Goals 

Jhocelin came to Canada in 2018 as an international student. Now she helps other newcomers feel welcome in Canada. 

She created La Paila Canada on Instagram with more than 16,000 followers. She shares helpful information for newcomers. Jhocelin will tell her story about being strong, working hard, and reaching her goals in Canada. 

Juanita DeSouza-Huletey 

Topic: Aligning Passion with Purpose 

Juanita DeSouza-Huletey is a respected industry and community leader with more than 25 years of experience in IT, digital transformation, project management, and leadership development. She has led large projects that improved efficiency and modernized systems across multiple organizations, including her role as Divisional Commander (Head), Information Technology and Solutions Division at the Winnipeg Police Service. 

As Founder and CEO of Dynamic Solutions International Inc. and Founder and President of the Canadian Immigrant Professional Association (CIPA), Juanita helps organizations grow through technology, process improvement, and inclusive leadership. She is also a passionate mentor and educator who supports immigrant professionals, women in STEM, and future leaders.
