Digital Technology

Digital technology represents massive economic potential for Manitoba – both in the creation of new technologies and start-up businesses, and in the adoption of existing technologies to increase productivity across all industry sectors.

RRC Polytech recognizes the emerging importance of digital technologies and is working to meet the applied research and training needs of industry in this rapidly evolving area.

Business Information Technology (BIT)

RRC Polytech staff and students in the BIT program have been instrumental in the creation of several websites and apps that will be of benefit to both companies in Manitoba and the public at large.

One central project was the development of the Sustainable Infrastructure & Transportation Cluster Map which highlights local (Manitoba-based private-sector and selected public-sector) facilities, expertise, and capabilities – especially those relevant to small- and medium-sized enterprises, larger firms, and research- and experimental development-focused organizations.

Most recent, students in BIT helped develop CounterPoint, a traffic and transportation app that will be used by the the Green Action Centre and the Manitoba Active and Safe Route to School Program (ASRTS) to promote exercise for school kids while mapping out safe routes to schools, all while providing data for future city planners or those looking for an ideal location to open a business.


iCARE logo

Built with the assistance of BIT students, the Inventory of College Applied Research Expertise (iCARE) is an innovative, online application that will serve as the ultimate resource for RRC Polytech stakeholders and potential industry partners seeking to identify applied research expertise among the faculty and staff at the College. It will play a key role in increasing RRC Polytech faculty participation in applied research. In addition to an overview of College facilities and capabilities, iCARE will share information about researcher interest, experience and expertise. This will enable RRC Polytech to quickly pinpoint the most appropriate research resource for a specific project.

Digital Technology Adoption Pilot Program (DTAPP)

With the support of the National Research Council Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program’s Digital Technology Adoption Pilot Program (NRC-IRAP’s DTAPP), RRC Polytech is assisting Manitoba small-to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in adopting digital technologies to increase their productivity, with a focus on the construction and manufacturing sectors. RRC Polytech has done extensive research to identify the most critical digital technologies and is developing Digital Technology Strategies for each sector. Training and awareness workshops are also being provided along with advisory services for individual SMEs.

An Assessment of Technology Roadmaps for Advanced Manufacturing: An Overview for the DTAPP Consultation with Manitoba Industry

  • This report summarizes the key findings and recommendations from a number of technology roadmaps that define the “Factory of the Future”, and identifies a strategy to assist SMEs in identifying digital technologies that can boost productivity within their manufacturing operations.

RRC Polytech campuses are located on the lands of Anishinaabe, Ininiwak, Anishininew, Dakota, and Dené, and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

We recognize and honour Treaty 3 Territory Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, the source of Winnipeg’s clean drinking water. In addition, we acknowledge Treaty Territories which provide us with access to electricity we use in both our personal and professional lives.
