Recognizing Indigenous Academic Achievement

RRC Polytech is proud to host its 26th annual Pow Wow to recognize Indigenous students’ achievements, resilience, and journeys. Advancing Indigenous achievement is a key priority at RRC Polytech, and the College recognizes the important role it plays in supporting reconciliation efforts in the province.

Please join us to celebrate as we send you off on your continued journeys to success. The annual Pow Wow gives our community the opportunity to dance, drum, sing, share food, connect with one another, and take part in Ceremony surrounded by family, friends, and supporters.

All Indigenous students graduating in 2026 are encouraged to join us to celebrate! Full-time, part-time, students that attend regional campuses, and students graduating in Fall 2026 are welcome to register and participate in Pow Wow.

Stoles

graphic design featured on stoles

A stole is an academic regalia sash that is draped over the shoulders to denote academic achievement.

The stoles this year were designed with RRC Polytech’s new Indigenous Visual Identity. Developed through extensive and meaningful consultation with both internal and external partners, this visual identity was created in collaboration with an Indigenous-led design partner from Manitoba.

This identity is designed to resonate with all members of the RRC Polytech community – including prospective and current students, alumni, staff and external partners. It symbolizes a collective commitment to Reconciliation, representation and respect, while co-existing harmoniously with RRC Polytech’s Corporate Visual Identity.

Key themes include emphasis on Ceremony, fire, and land; passing on Traditions and Knowledge; flowing forms, water, and interconnection; materials and colours rooted in the land; and identity expressed through place.

The motif resulting from the engagement process embodies the way teachings flow through us: ever-evolving, rooted in movement, continuity and our identities. Just as education shapes and reshapes us, this motif reflects the dynamic process of passing knowledge through generations – oral, embodied and experiential. It carries echoes of smoke, braiding and weaving – each gesture a reminder of interconnection and intention.

Braided from all directions, from all Nations, it holds the past and lights the way forward.

Graduates can pick up their stoles when they sign in at the event registration table on May 1.
