Week 5 Theme: Indigenous Entrepreneurship – Starting your own small business or social enterprise

To Celebrate Career and Workforce Development Month, Student Employment Services and the School of Indigenous Education are proud to present this lunch and learn session.

The number of Indigenous business owners is growing at five times the rate of self-employed Canadians, and Indigenous women are starting businesses at twice the rate of non-Indigenous women. Indigenous people represent the fastest-growing segment of the population, and given the tremendous growth projections for the Indigenous economy, Indigenous entrepreneurship is — and will continue to be — a driving force of Canada’s long-term economic stability.

Join Frank Parkes, Student Employment Services and Terri-Lynn Anderson, Indigenous Education as we share statistics and trends in Indigenous businesses, challenges faced by entrepreneurs and how a career as an entrepreneur or business owner may be the path for you! We’ll share some of the exciting events and micro-credential courses being offered at RRC Polytech that can accelerate your business planning process.

RRC Polytech campuses are located on the lands of Anishinaabe, Ininiwak, Anishininew, Dakota, and Dené, and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

We recognize and honour Treaty 3 Territory Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, the source of Winnipeg’s clean drinking water. In addition, we acknowledge Treaty Territories which provide us with access to electricity we use in both our personal and professional lives.
