Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) is dedicated to providing services and accommodations to ensure equal access to education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students as well as those students with additional disabilities across all RRC Polytech campuses.
Our office provides American Sign Language – English interpreters, various accommodations and note taking support to students enrolled in all College courses. Accommodation plans are individualized and developed with student input and are based on medical documentation provided to the DHHS office. Accommodations and services are provided in the classroom, College-related appointments (meetings with instructors, financial aid, counselling, etc.), workshops, College events including Student Association events and more.
Students who have a documented hearing loss, but may not need in-class services can also register with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services to discuss academic supports and accommodations they may be eligible to receive.
Note: Due to the high demand for services, it is strongly recommended that students book an appointment at least four months prior to the start of their study period to ensure accommodations are available.
We highly value your privacy, particularly regarding any information you share about your hearing loss or disability. Protecting your personal information is an ethical duty that our department takes very seriously. Additionally, we believe it’s important for you to be aware of the limitations of confidentiality so that you can make informed decisions about what you choose to disclose.
RRC Polytech offers accommodations for students with disabilities or those who are Deaf or hard of hearing, to overcome barriers in their education. These accommodations aim to create a level playing field for all students, ensuring that students registered with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services have equal opportunities without granting unfair advantages or compromising essential learning outcomes. These accommodations are tailored to each student and their specific course or program.
ASL-English interpreters facilitate communication between Deaf or hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, instructors, and other educational staff. Interpreters are dedicated to ensuring equal access by providing interpreting services in classrooms and for any college-related events.
RRC Polytech campuses are located on the lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anishininwak, Dakota Oyate, and Denésuline, and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
