Set up VMware Client for students

  1. Click the VMware Horizon link to navigate to the download website.
  2. Click Install VMware Horizon Client.

  3. On the Download VMware Horizon Clients page, on the Product Downloads tab, in the VMware Horizon Client for Windows group, click the Go to Downloads link.

  4. On the Download VMware Horizon Client for Windows page, on the Product Downloads tab, in the VMware Horizon Client for Windows group, click the Download Now button.

  5. Click the new download.

  6. Click Yes to allow changes.

  7. Click Agree & Install.

  8. Click Finish.

  9. Click Restart Now.

  10. Click the desktop icon or in your Windows search box, type Software Center, and then press the Enter key (or click the search result).

  11. Click + Add Server.

  12. Enter vdesktop.academic.rrc.ca, and then click Connect.

  13. Click Accept.

  14. Enter your College user name and password, use the drop down to change it to Academic, and then click Login.

  15. Double click the VDI (virtual desktop interface) you just added.

IMPORTANT: You cannot save anything to the VDI Desktop or to File Explorer. Save your work to OneDrive in order to access it later.


Access your VDI after set up

  • Search for VMWare in your Windows search box.
  • Click on the desktop shortcut for VMWare.
  • Pin VMWare onto your Start menu or your taskbar.
