SECD Cuba

November 21, 2014

eTV and the School of Health Sciences and Community Services Research Department recently completed a video about Cuba’s renowned Educa a Tu Hijo (Educate your Child) program. Janet Jamieson was invited to present the video at an International Conference on preschool education in Havana in July. The video, produced in English and Spanish, was extremely well received and will be disseminated internationally with support from the Bernard van Leer Foundation.

eTV Studio A Panorama

November 10, 2014

eTV is currently piloting a teaching and learning technology that allows students to experience spaces without ever having to physically travel there. The eTV pilot offers a 360° panorama of our Studio A – Paramedicine classroom. Incorporating images, video, and interactive activities, users can explore the classroom, travel to one of our rural sites in Portage, and learn about the streaming process. As we continue to develop this pilot, we are looking into 3D imaging as well as 360° 3D video with Oculus technology to offer users a fully immersive experience.

eTV is dedicated to high-quality video that supports teaching and learning at RRC. As part of this commitment, we regularly produce videos that demonstrate complex processes in fields such as Animal Health, Aviation, Apprenticeship, and Culinary Arts. For students, this means access to on-demand, anywhere, any-time instructional support materials that enhance the teaching and learning process at RRC.

Our most recently produced demonstrations are a series of Dental Examination videos to be used in the Dental Assisting program.

What I Did on My Summer Vacation

Winter may be just around the corner but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce about those great summer memories. Join presenters such as Meghan Reid as they do just that! CARD/PIF Research Presentations

Research is a vital aspect of post-secondary education. Red River College’s commitment to research is exemplified in a new series of events, the CARD/PIF Research Presentations. This series is co-sponsored by Applied Research & Commercialization and the Centre for Teaching Excellence, Innovation and Research. The presentations will be live streamed by eTV and will also be made available on-demand on the eTV Blog: Streaming page.

The first presentation, The Google Embryo Project by Susan Crawford-Young, explores how an embryo grows and develops. Drawing on research on the characteristics of salamander embryo tissue, Crawford-Young presents her findings on the correlation between physics and embryology.

What do Pigs, Panoramas, and Paramedics have in common? They’re all part of exciting new virtual reality initiatives eTV/TLTC will be exploring in the new year. In addition to our video streaming and production activities, we’ll also be piloting My Mediasite (lecture capture) for accessibility and on-demand requirements. AAiM Day

June 20, 2014

On May 21st, Aviation and Aerospace in Manitoba (AAiM) Day was held at Red River College’s Stevenson Aviation as approximately 700 grade 6 students took part in events designed to introduce young people to aviation and aerospace. This year’s event was marked by the attendance of several dignitaries including their Royal Highnesses Charles the Prince of Wales and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as the Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper and Mrs. Laureen Harper. eTV was happy to participate in documenting the day’s activities.

RRC Convocation – Spring 2014

On June 3rd and 4th, eTV streamed the Red River College 2014 Spring Convocation live from the Centennial Concert Hall to over 400 viewers from around the world. We are proud to be a part of this momentous occasion as we enable friends and family to watch the ceremony from Winnipeg and abroad. The Spring Convocation had viewers from North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and Australia!

Teacher Education: Mystery Skype

June 6, 2014

Business/Technology students at Red River College held a Mystery Skype with Kalogera Primary School in Larnaca, Cyprus. As part of the ICT and Multimedia class, the inquiry-based exercise consisted of the students guessing the location of the other classroom. eTV shot footage of the Mystery Skype as students reflected on the benefits of student-centered learning and global collaboration.
