The International Instructor Training (IIT) program is a re-configuration of the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE) suite of courses to group them into four distinct modules to be offered to an international audience. Each module is nine credit hours and is taken as a block, typically over a three-week period.

IIT differs in its focus from CAE, billing itself as a course designed to develop skills for teaching adults in a post-secondary or corporate vocational-technical setting, to guide both new and experienced educators in effectively integrating the latest technologies for teaching and learning, and to help them to capably relate to culturally diverse student populations.

Because of its international focus, IIT includes an additional course not currently in CAE, Cultural and Interdisciplinary Issues. This course would have to be developed.

In an increasingly global marketplace, effectively delivering instruction to adults requires more than just domain or subject matter expertise and sound educational theory and practice. Today’s tech-savvy students who represent increasingly diverse cultural and religious perspectives also expect more technology and cultural sensitivity than what is offered in most teacher education programs.

Given that the success of any adult education program is greatly influenced by the competence its instructors, it is essential that subject area experts also be skilled in facilitating effective learning experiences. Therefore, to promote student and teacher success, both theoretical and practical aspects of teaching and learning are addressed throughout the International Instructor Training program.
