Find out how to access ASL-English interpreters with different video conferencing platforms.

Microsoft Teams

  1. Send meeting invite to the booked interpreters
  2. At the time of the booking, open your TEAMS app and start your meeting
  3. On the top banner, click ‘People’. Find the interpreter(s) names in the participant list (they will let you know if they are using one screen or two)
  4. Once found, click the ellipsis beside their name
  1. Click ‘Spotlight for everyone’.
  2. On the pop-up menu select the blue button ‘Spotlight for everyone’

Notes:

  • Microsoft Teams allows seven participants to be spotlighted at the same time.
  • Ensure the camera and microphone are enabled for the interpreters and Deaf participants for the entirety of the booking.
  • To ensure events are fully accessible, please use the chat feature sparingly.

Zoom

  1. Send meeting link to the booked interpreters
  2. Start your scheduled meeting
  3. On the bottom banner, click ‘Participants’. In the Participants list, find the interpreter(s) names (they will let you know if they are using one screen or two)
  4. Click the interpreter’s name and on the dropdown menu click “Spotlight for Everyone”

Notes:

  • Zoom allows nine participants to be spotlighted as speakers.
  • Make sure the camera and microphone are enabled for the interpreters and Deaf participants for the entirety of the booking.
  • Some Deaf participants may also require this, so they are able to express their comments and questions using American Sign Language.
