These frequently asked questions and answers are intended for RRC students.

If you are a speaker, sponsor, or round-table host, please direct your questions to the Direction Conference committee member who has been acting as your contact.

When is the Directions Conference?

The 2020 Directions Conference will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020.

Where is the conference located?

How do I register to attend the conference?

You can register to attend the conference by following this link to the conference’s EventBrite registration page.

What time should I arrive?

You can start arriving as early as 7am but that may be a little early for many (although we find some delegates like to arrive early to beat the crowds and get their choice of seats). The venue starts serving breakfast at 7:30am and we find the majority of people tend to arrive then. When you arrive, you will need time to check your coat (included) and pick up your name tag.

What time should I be seated and ready for breakfast?

Short answer: 8am. Long answer: when you arrive, we suggest visiting the breakfast buffet and being seated by 8am, at which time the conference will begin.

What should I wear?

This is a tough one as there are so many industries represented each with their own standard of what to wear at a conference. As this is a business conference, many participants will be in traditional business attire. To see what that looks like, check out what people are wearing in the video from last year’s conference.

However, not everyone has this type of attire, nor do they need it. Our advice is to “dress up” as if you are going for a job interview within your industry. When in doubt, ask your instructors who can advise you.

Is there a conference program?

Actually, there are two. When you sit at your breakfast table you will find a printed program you can keep that includes a daily schedule of event, list of roundtable hosts and sponsors.

Should I bring my résumé to hand out?

No. Directions is not really the venue for this and handing out a résumé could lead to an awkward moment between you and a business delegate. Directions is for networking – better to get the delegate’s contact information and follow up after the conference.

How should I prepare for the roundtable session in the afternoon?

First, we suggest you take a look at the list of roundtable hosts with their biographies.

Most students find it extremely helpful to study the biographies and plan out who they would like to visit with ahead of time. This way, you are more likely to meet people of interest to you.

When does the day end?

The day ends after the roundtable session is over. The end of the conference is technically scheduled for 3:30pm. However, with a sold-out conference, delays in moving large groups of delegates could push the end to as late as 4:15pm.

I heard about a Wine and Cheese Reception at the end of the day. Do I get to go?

This Wine and Cheese reception is an appreciation event for our sponsors, guest speakers, roundtable hosts, RRC staff and “Ambassador” volunteers only.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

We have communicated any dietary restrictions noted when you registered via Eventbrite.
