On November 15, 2022, 30 students from an Organizational Behaviour class visited Emerging Media and Production (EMP) and participated in the newly developed Truth and Reconciliation Immersive Experience. As part of the Business Administration program, ADMN-2058 Organizational Behaviour, features a module covering Diversity and Indigenous Awareness in Organizational Behaviour. This is an extremely relevant module given RRC Polytech’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, and Inclusion and Equity.
Nora Sobel, instructor for this group of students says, “this module provides an excellent opportunity to look into innovative and current ways to address Truth and Reconciliation in a way that students could not only enhance their awareness but also discuss as a group how to move from knowledge to action, especially in their future careers in the industry”.
Student Experiences:
“The truth and reconciliation immersive experience exceeded my expectations. Not only did the experience provide valuable insights but was also done with innovative technology that really enhanced the story-telling aspect of the installation”
“It was a truly unforgettable and heart-wrenching experience. It’s so important that we keep talking about these issues and that we don’t forget our country’s past”
“I believe this room can also provide a heightened learning experience for other subjects and courses. Other than the projections on all four walls I enjoyed the flexible aspect of the “unstructured classroom”.
“ I personally would like to see the implementation of this technology more frequently as it can benefit not just students but others that prefer this method of learning. Rather than just a simple lecture, individuals can be placed into a simulated room with given scenarios and experiences. This brings out the creativity and open-minded characteristics for some of us.”
“This was an impactful learning experience for myself and my peers…”
“I see enormous potential in the room to develop learning content that externalizes the enormous multiculturalism present in the College.”
