Red River College is hosting three summer camps in July 2009 to introduce girls ages 12 - 14 to technology and applied skills career options. The camps will combine exploration of different careers with hands-on activities such as working with computers and designing and constructing go-carts. Participants will also meet women who are successfully pursuing non-traditional occupations.
The camps reinforce the importance of taking science, advanced math subjects and industrial arts in high school by stressing the impact those subjects have on career decisions.
This age is an important time for girls because they begin to make course decisions that affect future career choices. Girls Exploring Trades and Technology offers participants a unique opportunity to consider a variety of careers in an active, enjoyable summer camp program.
Each camp accommodates 12 students from Manitoba, with participants drawn randomly from all applications received by June 8, 2009. Selected camp participants will be notified by mail by June 19, 2009.
Only your interest and your energy! Lunch and snacks will be provided at no cost. All materials and equipment will be provided at no cost. Camp fees are covered through sponsorship, in-kind donations, and a grant from the Technical Vocational Initiative.
Transportation to and from Red River College is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
