Construction Management

Upgrade your expertise and learn to plan successful projects across the construction industry.

Develop the versatile management skills and in-depth knowledge you need to succeed in heavy, industrial, commercial and residential construction.

Through the Construction Management program, you’ll combine technology, science, leadership and management skills to plan projects and overcome industry challenges. In addition, your training will comply with Canadian codes, laws and regulations and help you develop sustainable building practices. This program is best suited for people already working in areas related to the skilled trades, engineering or engineering technologies.

The knowledge and skills developed in this program will also help you prepare for the Canadian Construction Association Gold Seal exams, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate exam and the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) national accreditation exam.

As you advance through the program, you can choose to finish at one of four exit points based on your career goals:

  • After completing Year 1 – Exit the program with a Civil Technician certificate 
  • After completing Year 2 – Exit the program with a Construction Technician certificate 
  • After completing Year 3 – Exit the program with a Construction Technology diploma
  • After completing Year 4 – Exit the program with a Bachelor of Technology, Construction Management degree

Full-time Delivery: Something New Every Term

In this program, you’ll develop crucial leadership, management and communication skills and apply them in industry co-op placements, preparing you for a successful career in construction management.

TERM 1

Build your technical knowledge and essential math, drawing and drafting skills while learning safe work practices and planning procedure.

TERM 2

Explore the industry, identify key parties and their roles in construction and learn to communicate professionally with peers and stakeholders.

TERM 3

Complete a paid co-op placement and build experience working with contractors, consultants, municipal authorities and other industry partners. Continue your studies or choose to finish with a Civil Technician certificate.

TERM 4

Expand your technical expertise and explore engineering principles and material characteristics critical to building and infrastructure construction.

TERM 5

Lock down your understanding of regulations, exploring the systems, standards and codes regulating construction.

TERM 6

Further your experiential training through a second paid co-op placement. Continue your studies or choose to exit with a Construction Technician certificate.

TERM 7

Discover management principles, industry-standard planning software, contract law and strategies to reduce the environmental impact of construction.

TERM 8

Discover project management tools, leadership skills and techniques to help better manage construction scope and costs.

TERM 9

Expand your network and integrate your experience in your final paid co-op placement before graduation. Continue your studies or choose to exit with a Construction Technology diploma.

TERM 10

Develop real solutions to various construction challenges and learn to manage communications, job sites, employee satisfaction and engineering economics.

TERM 11

Present an original design, practical project or case study as a final capstone project while strengthening your leadership and management skills. Graduate with a Bachelor of Technology, Construction Management.
