Red River College Polytechnic’s international student graduates are employment‐ready and eager to start working as soon as possible. There are many qualified international student graduates who are seeking permanent employment opportunities with the hope of settling in Manitoba. The Manitoba Government is also eager to have RRC Polytech international student graduates stay in Manitoba and offer them a priority assessment stream through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).

Red River College Polytechnic’s international student graduates are eligible to work in Canada after graduation with a program of one year or longer. The process to hire them is simple and requires little effort. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), formerly known as Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC), has made it very easy for employers to hire international student graduates from public post‐secondary institutions. Graduates can apply for an open work permit called the Post‐Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) the day they graduate. There is no need for the employer to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) when hiring an international student graduate.

Red River College Polytechnic’s international student graduates may work off‐campus PART‐TIME (no more than 20 hours per week) if they:

  • Had a valid study permit
  • Had completed their program of study, but have not received written confirmation or submit the PGWP application
  • Were eligible to work off‐campus without a permit, and
  • Did not work off‐campus more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions

As established by the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Red River College Polytechnic’s international student graduates may work off‐campus FULL‐TIME if, at the time they submitted their PGWP application, they

  • Had a valid study permit
  • Had completed their program of study
  • Were eligible to work off‐campus without a permit, and
  • Did not work off‐campus more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions

The letter of submission confirmation issued by IRCC is proof of the student’s PGWP application status.
