International Student Ambassador Reflection – Mohitpreet Kaur

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X

As an international student ambassador, I was inspired by this quote to help pave the way for a brighter future for myself and my fellow students. Through my various roles and responsibilities, I was able to make a positive impact on the college community while also growing and learning as a leader and as a person. One of the most fulfilling experiences I had as an ambassador was attending the Red River Ready event as a student panelist. I remember attending my own orientation and how helpful it was to hear from other students who had gone through the same process before. Being able to provide that same insight to incoming students and help ease their transition into college life was truly an honor. As I shared my experiences and insights with the students, I felt a sense of pride and fulfillment, knowing that I was making a positive impact on their lives.

Another highlight of my experience was volunteering at the culture and diversity party. As an international student myself, I know firsthand how important it is to celebrate and embrace different cultures, and this event was a perfect opportunity to do just that. Seeing the campus community come together to learn about and appreciate each other’s traditions was a truly heartwarming experience.

Throughout my time as an ambassador, I faced some challenges as well. Helping term 1 students navigate the college and its many resources was not always easy, but it was incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact my guidance had on their academic and personal success. Additionally, being part of the student anti-racism committee was a challenging but crucial responsibility that taught me the importance of taking a stand against discrimination and promoting inclusivity.

In the end, being an international student ambassador allowed me to grow and develop as a leader, communicator, and global citizen. I am grateful for the experiences and memories I gained through this role and am committed to continuing to promote diversity and inclusion wherever my path takes me.
