Stay Safe at the Water

Manitoba’s lakes and rivers look beautiful, but they can be dangerous to those who are not careful. Every year, Manitobans become victim to drowning, and this past weekend three people drowned in separate incidents.

If you are on, in, or near Manitoba’s waterways, please take care to be safe.

  • Stay away from water’s edge, especially when there are slippery rocks.
  • Always WEAR a lifejacket when in a boat, or if you are not a strong swimmer.
  • Don’t take risks by swimming beyond your abilities.
  • Learn how to swim! Find a swimming course at a nearby pool (once they are open).
