Men’s Volleyball Coaches

Head Coach: Chris Voth

Chris Voth is starting his first season at Red River College after recently retiring from his professional playing career. As a player, he won back to back AAAA high school championships, played 5 years at The University of Manitoba (with his best finish being a CIS bronze), and then trained with the national team full time before crossing the pond to the European realm.

The first two years was in The Netherlands for Abiant Lycurgus where his team won the North Dutch Cup, Dutch Cup, Super Cup and the league championship. Afterwards, he played for Lakkapää Perungan Pojat in Finland, improving from the previous year’s last-place finish to 4th place in the league. After playing a year in Czech Republic, Chris went back to Lycurgus to compete in Champions League and eventually retire.



Assistant coach: Stefan Balko

Stefan Balko played club volleyball with the University of Manitoba Bison’s all throughout high school, winning a national championship in 2005 and 2007. He also won a national beach championship in 2006.
During high school he played for the St.Paul’s Crusaders leading the junior varsity team to a 54-0 season and winning the provincial title in the 2005-2006 season. He then went on to win the varsity provincial title in the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 season along side head coach Chris Voth.
After high school, Stefan played one year on the University of Manitoba Bison’s team, before committing himself fully to his studies. Stefan graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. in mechanical engineering in 2014, and went on to complete his M.A.Sc. in biomedical engineering at Ryerson University at the beginning of 2019. Currently, along side helping Chris with coaching, Stefan is working in regenerative medicine research at the University of Manitoba Bannatyne campus.
