Women’s Soccer Coaches
Doug Lawrie, Head Coach
Doug has coached the “beautiful game” for 21 years. He coached boys and girls youth teams in the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association at all levels of competition until 2009. Since 2010 Doug has been President and Head Coach of the Hornets Soccer Club competing in the Winnipeg Women’s Soccer League. Doug is a certified CSA Level 3 (Senior) soccer coach, and has successfully completed the NCCP Competition Development Multi-Sport program and the CSA Provincial Pre-B Licence assessment. In 2007 Doug was awarded WYSA Coach of the Year for the St Charles Youth Soccer Assn. In 2016 Doug was awarded Coach of the Year by the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, along with capturing the 2016 MCAC Women’s Soccer and Futsal Championships. In 2017 Doug was awarded the MCAC Coach of the Year for Futsal after coaching the Rebels to a repeat Futsal championship. Doug won his 2nd MCAC Coach of the Year award in 2018.
Doug is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, Kingston with a BA in Economics and Commerce. While attending RMC he played varsity hockey competing in the Ontario Universities Athletic Association. Doug served 31 years in the Air Force specializing in Maritime Helicopter operations and Flying Instruction. While in the military Doug was an active participant in the Canadian Forces National Sports program in both hockey and soccer as a player, coach and administrator.
This is Doug’s tenth year as Head Coach of the Red River College Women’s Varsity Soccer and Futsal teams.
Elizabeth Codville, Assistant Coach
Elizabeth is a former Rebels player and coach, now returning for her 3rd year as assistant coach. A former team captain, Elizabeth holds a wealth of soccer knowledge and experience being a former MCAC all-star and high level women’s club player.
Brittany Derkacz, GK Coach
Brittany is a former player who led the team to a Futsal Championship in 2017 and was declared the Championship MVP. She followed that with selection to the Soccer All-Conference Team and being named team MVP in 2018. Brittany has an extensive background in Soccer and has played both Youth Premier and Senior Premier throughout her soccer career.
