Event Staff Job Descriptions

Overview

Communication and interpersonal, team work, problems solving, time management and leadership skills have been ideitifeid by employers to be the top soft skills they are looking for in employees. Rebels Athletics and Recreation Services give you the opportunity to develop and enhance these skills while attending school.

The Event Staff team coordinates logistica land customer service support for Rebels Varsity Sport events. Responsibilities include facility set-up and clean-up, ticket sales, event ushers, merchandise sales, minor officials and general game support. Please note that the majority of events take place on weeknights and weekends, and as such applicants must be available to work those times.

Being a Rebels event staff allows students to gain a wide array of experience in: customer service, minor officiating, event planning, working in a team setting, promotions, social media, game production, videography and more.

Positions Available

NOTE: Knowledge and understanding of the sport preferred.

Admissions/Concessions

Personnel will be responsible for selling event tickets on site and all aspects of concessions at Rebel varsity events. Additional responsibilities include, balancing the daily deposit with ticket sales, assisting with the ushering of spectators within the facility, providing quality customer service and inventory control. Other duties as assigned.

Video Production

All Rebels home games in the North Gym are broadcast live on the Internet. Staff must possess a basic knowledge of social media, tablets and the sport they are filming.

Minor Officials (Volleyball)

Will be responsible for specific sport technical requirements at men’s and/or women’s intercollegiate volleyball events, including: scorers, statisticians, linepersons, score clock operators. Duties include: score clock operation, filling out the game sheets. Making sure game sheet information is correct, filling out the game sheet properly during the game, entering stats into the computer during the game, and interacting with the coaches in a positive and professional manner before, during and after the game. Other duties as assigned.

Minor Officials (Basketball)

Will be responsible for specific sport technical requirements at men’s and/or women’s intercollegiate basketball events including timer, shot clock operators, statistician and scorer. Duties include: Score clock, shot clock operation, filling out the game sheets. Making sure game sheet information is correct, filling out the game sheet properly during the game, entering stats into the computer during the game and interacting with the coaches in a positive and professional manner before, during and after the game. Other duties as assigned.

Minor Officials (Futsal)

Will be responsible for specific sport technical requirements at men’s and/or women’s intercollegiate futsal events including timer, statistician and scorer. Duties include: Score clock and filling out the game sheets. Making sure game sheet information is correct, filling out the game sheet properly during the game and interacting with the coaches in a positive and professional manner before, during and after the game. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Post-secondary student
  • Previous customer service experiences an asset
  • Experience handling cash
  • Experience scorekeeping at the high school or collegiate level
  • Candidates must be organized, conscientious, punctual and professional
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Must be able to move and lift varying types of sporting equipment including volleyball poles, tables and chairs, etc.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and lift over 20 pounds
