The Red River College  Rebels women’s did not fair well at the North Gym on Notre Dame Campus tonight, losing 3-0 in sets to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. The Rebels trailed the entire game losing each set, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20. The Women Rebels fall to 2-4 on the season in Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference play. The Rebels men’s team showed more fight on this night however, losing 3-1 (25-27, 22-25, 26-24, 17-25) to the Wesmen in the second game of the evening. The Rebels were led on offense by hitters Zac Duncan and MCAC player of the week Kevin Bombersbach, and the gutsy effort of  starting setter Bobby Neufeld (who was dealing with a previous practice injury, a facial laceration with stiches beside his right eye), but in the end fell to a talented Wesmen side..The Rebels men fall to 4-2 on the season in league, with both losses at the hand of U of Winnipeg.

RED RIVER COLLEGE REBELS ANNOUNCE NEW ADDITION TO COACHING STAFF

Chris MacLennan will join the Rebels as Head Coach for women’s volleyball

For Immediate Release — August 20, 2013

WINNIPEG, MB — Red River College (RRC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Chris MacLennan, Head Coach for the Rebels Women’s Volleyball team.

“Chris will be a great addition to the coaching staff here at RRC, and the athletes who are part of the program will have the opportunity to learn and play for an excellent coach,” said Shane Ray, manager of athletics and recreation services for Red River College.

MacLennan, a Level 2 NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) coach, starts his first season at RRC after having established himself in Ontario with the Maverick Volleyball Club in Ottawa, then moving on to work as an assistant coach at joining Lakehead University, as their assistant coach during the 2011-12 campaign.

He also coached with the Shock Volleyball Club in Winnipeg over the past year, and led Team Manitoba at the National Team Challenge Cup in July. His proven success at the club, provincial and post-secondary level will be an asset to the program here at Red River College.

“I am very excited to begin training this season, and will look to put together an excellent group with some of the returning players in combination with some new talent entering the gym this year” said MacLennan.  “We will look to improve upon the established success of this program — this year and moving forward.”

The Red River Rebels are the varsity sport teams of Red River College, and compete in the Manitoba College Athletic Conference (MCAC). The College fields men and womens teams in basketball, futsal, soccer and volleyball.
