Get Movin Challenge Week 4 Prize Winner

February 27, 2018

For the entire month of February, Red River College staff and students are meeting the challenge of reaching 7,000 steps per day! This month long challenge encourages you to be active and reduce sedentary behavior in your life. Need more incentive? No problem! We have some great prizes lined up for participants. The more days you reach 7000 steps, the better the prizes! Think reaching 7000 steps in one day is too difficult? Think again…Here are some simple ways you can do it: Walking, running, sports, fitness class, have a walking meeting, working out, take the stairs, park further away, walking lunch hour…

This is the final weekly prize winner. Be sure to submit your results for Get Movin to our online form at: http://blogs.rrc.ca/rebels/fitness-wellness/get-movin-challenge/

Weekly Prizes

During the challenge, we encourage participants to send in a pic of you and/or your co-workers, fellow students, friends and family being active and achieving your daily 7,000 steps to coskinner@rrc.ca along with a brief synopsis and be entered to win a weekly prize! Your pic may make the blog and inspire other participants to Get Movin!

Week 4 Prize Winner: Gord Bone

Our Week #4 Get Movin Challenge Prize Winner is RRC Instructor Gord Bone. Gord submitted these photos with the following:

I’m entering my Sunday morning outdoor trash-talkin’ shinny skate, for the Get Movin’ Challenge. As I’ve mentioned to you in the past we’ve been at it for 40 yrs (began in 1976 or 77), never let temperature shut us down, (at least for the hard core group of 7-8), skated many times in the minus 30’s (before wind chill). Play is just for fun, no one cares about a score, it’s great back and forth exercise in the fresh air from 10:00-noon, 12-14 times each year. It’s remarkable, almost every time as we leave the ice the shared commentary is the same, ”Wasn’t that a great morning!” Winter is a fabulous time to get outside, for me outdoor shinny is a highlight of our colder season, and I’m always sad when the sloppy warm days of March are here.

Congrats to Gord  and thanks to all participants who submitted photos. Good luck to everyone in the Get Movin Challenge!!
