Rebels Weekend Wrap Nov 8th &9th

Both of the Basketball teams opened the season being defeated as they hosted PUC Pilots on Friday evening and on Saturday they travelled to Otterbourne, MB to take on the PUC Pilots as a part of their double header. Both of the Volleyball lost their season openers vs USB Le Rouge as they visited CMU to take on the Blazers Friday evening and were back home on Saturday to take on the Blazers!
Men’s Volleyball lost to the top ranked Blazers 3-0 on both of the nights, things didn’t go as planned. Rebels showed great effort and fought through every set, never gave up. 1st year head coach Chris Voth is excited about this team and the process behind it. 1st year outside hitter Brady De Dominicis had 8 kills, 6 digs and 3 solo blocks on the weekend vs the top ranked blazers. 1st year setter Kyle Kosowan from West Kildonan Collegiate had 11 digs, 14 assists and a block on the weekend.
Women’s Volleyball went on to split the pair of games vs the Blazers. Lost 3-1 on Friday night and won 3-2 on Saturday night. Losing close sets on Friday really had the Rebels going on Saturday. 2nd year outside hitter Darby Coughlin was sensational the whole weekend. This is what the 9th year head coach Dan McGregor had to say about her this past weekend ” Darby has a very impactful weekend. Darby was an offensive leader with 35 kills over the course of both games and also demonstrated her defensive abilities by adding 15 digs. Darby has led by example in both practices and games this season in her first year with the Rebels women’s volleyball team” 3rd year outside hitter Sara Meisner was pretty solid the weekend as well having 16 kills and 14 digs.
Women’s Basketball split their double header vs the Pilots, winning at home on Friday with the final score of 67-63 and losing on the road on Saturday vs the Pilots with the score of 59-63. 4th year guard Jodene Kowalchuk was unstoppable on Friday night as she had 22 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists while playing the whole game. 1st year forward Alexis Arnold added 10 points and 9 rebounds of her own.
Men’s Basketball went on to win both games vs the Pilots winning by 20 points on Friday night and they never looked back on Saturday night as they won by 18 points. 1st year forward Trezon Morcilla from Garden City Colligate had 20 points on 6/10 shooting including 5/7 from the 3 point line. 1st year forward Francesco Tocci had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks in 23 minutes of action. On Saturday night 3rd year guard from MBCI lead the way with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. 4th year forward from Oak Park Mard Ridd added a double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds and 1st year forward Francesco Tocci also added a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
