All 6 six Rebels court sport teams were in action again this weekend, both at home and away, highlighted by a weekend basketball sweep.
The Rebels men’s basketball team continued their strong NIAC play with a pair of home wins over Turtle Mountain CC at home. On Friday, Torrez McKoy led Rebels with 23 points while Devin Kinch added 16 points 4 rebounds and 3 assists in a 118-74 victory. McKoy led the Rebels again on Saturday with 24 points, 6 boards and 6 assists while centre Mark Ridd had a strong game with 17 and 12 rebounds in a 92-81 win.
The women’s Rebels team also swept TMCC over the weekend, first with a 71-48 win Friday night. Guard Cyzelle Mas had 24 points and 7 rebounds while forward Kaytlin Waddell had 17 points and 8 rebounds. Rebels followed up with a 62-50 win Saturday afternoon. Mas led the scoring again with 25 points while forward Tiara Cruz got 8 points 13 rebounds and 3 assists. Both basketball teams head to Sissseton-Whapten, SD next weekend for a pair of NIAC road games.
Both volleyball teams struggled this weekend, and were swept by the CMU Blazers at CMU on Saturday. Women 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-17) and men 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23). Volleyball hosts USB Les Rouges Friday Jan.25 with the women’s game at 6pm.
Finally, the Rebels futsal teams travelled to Brandon on Saturday for games against the BU Bobcats and ACC Cougars. The women Rebels split their weekend games, losing to BU 5-1 and defeating ACC 6-5. Logan Bresciani led the Rebels with 5 goals in the win against the Cougars. The men’s team lost both of their games, 10-6 to BU and 8-5 to ACC. Tran Minh scored a hat trick for the Rebels against the Bobcats while Bailey Novicki scored thrice against the Cougars. Both futsal teams next the CMU Blazers at CMU Friday night.
