Busy first weekend of 2019 for Rebels Varsity Sports with all 6 court sports teams in action across Manitoba and Minnesota.
The Rebels women’s futsal team started the 2019 MCAC season strong with a 4-2 win over the PUC Pilots at home on Saturday. Logan Bresciani led the Rebels with 2 goals while Michelle Herms and Laura Girard each had one. They followed up on Sunday with a 6-6 draw against USB Les Rouges. Herms scored a hat trick for the Rebels while Bresciani added 2 goals. The men’s futsal team did not fare as well, losing two competitive games, 5-4 to PUC and 10-7 to USB. Tran Minh scored a hat trick for the Rebels on Sunday while Mateso Augustin had 3 goals over both games. Both teams travel to Brandon this Saturday for games against the BU Bobcats and ACC Cougars.
Rebels men’s basketball travelled to Cass Lake, MN and earned a split against the LTTC Lakers, losing on Saturday 80-74 and rebounding on Sunday to win 74-72 to improve their NIAC record to 7-3. The women’s team were given a pair of default wins has the Lakers were unable to field a women’s team. Both Rebels teams host Turtle Mountain CC this weekend, with games starting at 6pm on Friday and 12pm Saturday.
Finally, Rebels volleyball hosted the CMU Blazers Friday night in the North, losing both games 3-1 22-women (25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18) and men (25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15). Both teams travel to CMU Saturday night for their next MCAC contest.
