The Rebels Men’s Basketball team conducted a NIAC sweep at home this weekend while the Rebels Women’s Volleyball is in the top spot of the MCAC after a home and home series with St.Boniface.
Rebels men’s basketball improved their NIAC record to 4-2 after a pair of wins over Trinity Bible College this past weekend at home. Garnett McLeod led the Rebels Friday night with 17 points in a 83-59 victory. Kyle Queijo added 16 point of his own while Mitch Podworny had 14 points and 14 rebounds. On Saturday, Steve Willamson was the high scorer with 14 points in a 57-45 win while forward Mark Ridd had a strong game with 6 points and 16 rebounds.
After losing Friday night 59-35, the Rebels women’s team picked up their first win of the NIAC season, defeating the TBC Lions 44-36 Saturday afternoon. Czyelle Mas scored 16 points and fellow guard Cayla Sagun had 12 points and 5 steals. Both teams next host the CMU Blazers this upcoming Friday, women’s game starting at 6:00pm.
The Rebels women’s volleyball team sits in MCAC 1st place with a 5-1 record after splitting a home and home series with the USB Rouges. Friday night at USB they lost 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22) but then were able to battle back Saturday night in the North Gym, winning a tough match, 3-2 (23-25, 12-25, 25-17, 25-21,15-10). Ashley Goodwin had a strong game with 4 serving aces and 5 kills to go along with 17 digs and 2 blocks. Taylor Gray led the offense with 12 kills while Brooke Paulsen chipped in with 9 kills of her own.
Men’s volleyball continued their slow start, losing both games to USB 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 27-25) and 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-17). Both teams next host the CMU Blazers at home Saturday evening, womens game starting at 6:00pm.
