A busy weekend in Rebels Athletics with MCAC season openers in volleyball and NIAC starts for the basketball teams in Minnesota.
The Rebels women’s volleyball team started their MCAC season on a high note, winning a pair of games at home against the ACC Cougars, 3-2 ( 20-25,25-14,21-25,25-20, 15-10) on Friday and 3-1 (25-20,12-25,26-16,25-18) on Saturday. 2nd year veteran Chloe Orteza lead the Rebels on Friday with 11 kills, while rookie Brooke Paulsen scored 11 kills in Saturday’s win. Sara Meisner also had a strong game on Saturday, with 15 digs, 2 solo blocks and 2 serving aces.
The Rebels men’s team did not fair as well, losing both of their games to the Cougars, 3-0 (25-21,25-20,25-22) and 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-26). 2018 MCAC All-Conference Josh Goosen had a stellar weekend for the Rebels, scoring 17 and 27 kills respectively leading the Rebels offense. Both teams next host Providence University College Friday night, with the women’s game starting at 6:00pm.
Both Basketball teams started their NIAC(Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) seasons with a pair of games in Plymouth, Minnesota against the AFLBS Crusaders.
The men’s team earned a weekend split, winning 97-71 on Saturday, then falling 60-53 on Sunday. Guard Kyle Queijo lead the Rebels with 26 points on Saturday along with rookie Devin Kinch and his 24 points. Unfortunately the lady Rebels did not fare as well, losing 51-39 Saturday and 60-53 in OT on Sunday. Both teams next face the PUC Pilots in a home and home series this weekend, with the Rebels having their home opener in the North Gym Saturday night, November 10th, women’s game starting at 6pm.
