The Rebels women’s soccer team had a successful MCAC weekend, earning a possible 4 out of 6 possible points in their quest to earn a post season berth, after missing out last season.
On Saturday at home, the Rebels tied the PUC Pilots 1-1. Alyssa Heuchert scored the lone goal for the Rebels while Abigail Wilson was strong in net. The Rebels followed up on Sunday with a 4-1 win over the ACC Cougars. Heuchert scored again, while Claudia Anderson, Emily Carnegie and Reighlyn Turner-Cummer scored as well. Coach Doug Lawrie singled out the efforts of forward Julia Friesen and centre backs Ashley Paterson and Sydni de Jong over the weekend for the Rebels, noting Friesen’s work rate and Paterson and de Jongs strong defensive play. The women’s team currently sit in MCAC 3rd place with one week left in the season.
The men’s team split their home games this weekend, losing to PUC 4-0 and defeating ACC 5-0. The men’s team currently sits in 5th place, but still have a chance of making the playoffs with 2 games to go. Both teams head to Brandon Saturday October 20th to face the BU Bobcats, then finish the MCAC regular season at home on Sunday October 21st against the CMU Blazers.
