Rebels Weekend Wrap- Jan 12-13

All 6 Rebels teams competed this weekend, with games both at home and on the road in the MCAC (Manitoba Colleges Athletics Conference) and NIAC (Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).

The Rebels men’s and women’s hosted the AFLBS Crusaders, their NIAC rivals from Northern Minnesota, on Friday and Saturday sweeping all 4 games. The men’s team won on Friday 69-50, forward Anuna Oj-Wato had a strong game with 20 points and 19 rebounds. The men followed up with a 90-69 victory on Saturday. Guard Chris Demauleon-Bartolay had a monster 42 points game for the Rebels with forward Steve Willamson adding 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Rebels now sit in 4th place in the NIAC standings with a 5-3 record.

The women’s team completed their weekend sweep of the Crusaders with wins by the score of 89-29 and 85-22. Jodene Kowalchuk lead the team on Friday with 17 points while Lacey Finnbogason was the high scorer on Saturday with 22 points. They also have a 5-3 NIAC record and sit in 5th place. Both basketball teams next games are on the weekend of Jan 26-27 when they host Sisseton Wahpeton College (Sisseton, SD).

The Rebels Futsal teams opened their MCAC regular season on Saturday evening hosting the PUC Pilots. The men’s team won the first game 4-3 with Val Komilov scoring 2 goals and Brandan Le Grand and Minh Tran each chipping in with a goal. Unfortunately the women’s team were shut out 6-0 in their home opener. Both teams next host the BU Bobcats and the ACC Cougars Saturday afternoon on January 27th.

Finally the Rebels men’s and women’s volleyball teams played a pair of road games, Friday at CMU and Saturday against the PUC Pilots. On Friday, the Rebels lost both games to the Blazers, men 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 26-24) and women 3-0 (25-21, 25-9, 25-18). On Saturday the Rebels were able to earn a split, with the women winning 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-9) and men falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-17). Both teams next host Les Rouge from USB on Friday January 19th with the men’s game starting at 6pm.
