WINNIPEG, MB., December 7, 2017 – The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference announced Thursday that Ashley Goodwin of the Red River College Rebels women’s volleyball team and Mackenzie Hildebrand of the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers men’s volleyball team have been named Athletes of the Week.
In her first year, Ashley Goodwin has led the Rebels to a 5-3 record in the first half of their season and has been dominant at the net with 86 blocks, 82 kills and a kill efficiency of .226.
While it is common practice for a libero to come in for middle players in the backrow, Ashley has demonstrated that she is one of the best passers and defenders on the team. She leads by example with a determined focus and positive attitude in both practices and games which has translated into her emergence as one of the best middles in the conference.
Mackenzie is the Blazers most consistent performer night in and night out. He was the team’s kill leader yesterday as the Blazers took down the Providence Pilots and leapfrogged them into first place in the conference.
Mackenzie earned 16 kills and only one error in 29 attempts, putting him at an extraordinary 51.72% kill efficiency rating, which led all players. He also added 6 aces and two solo blocks against the Pilots and had an excellent 2.44 serve receive passer rating.
