WINNIPEG, MB., November 22, 2017 – The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference announced Wednesday that Chloe Orteza of the Red River College Rebels women’s volleyball team and Braden Campbell of the Assiniboine Community College Cougars men’s volleyball team have been named Athletes of the Week.
In her first season with the Red River College Rebels, Chloe Orteza has already taken on a leadership role with the team as co-captain.
“She leads by example both on and off the court with her commitment to the team and success in the classroom in the nursing program,” said head coach Dan McGregor.
Chloe is a dynamic and efficient attacker as noted with a kill efficiency over the past weekend of .245, leading the team with 18 kills and also contributed with aggressive serving notching 8 service aces. Chloe also defends with an unmatched level of intensity as she led the Rebels with 6 blocks and 12 digs.
Braden was a big part of the Cougars’ weekend sweep of the Rebels because of his 22 kills Friday and an additional 19 kills on Saturday. He was also one of the best passers on the court both games.
This is Braden’s first year as a Cougar and has already proven to be an integral part of the team. He previously only played high school volleyball in Dauphin, MB.
“Braden is very coachable, takes direction well, and will try anything he is asked to,” said head coach Joel Small. “He is quiet and confident on and off the court, is an excellent team player and leads by example. He is very focused at practice, always ready to go early and ready to work hard.”
