The Rebels women’s soccer team had a strong weekend earning a win and a tie over in a pair of home games. On Saturday, the Rebels tied the PUC Pilots, with Megan Castro the lone goal scorer. On Sunday, the Rebels thumbed the ACC Cougars 8-0 with Emily Carnegie scoring a hat trick and Emma Maclennan adding 2 goals of her own.
Coach Doug Lawrie was very happy with his team’s goaltending over the weekend, praising GK Brittany Derkacz: “Brittany is the backbone of the team this year”, says Head Coach Doug Lawrie, “she has tremendous positioning, foot work and timing, and very sure hands. We have total confidence in her with the ball at her feet and our game plan includes her in our build-up play from the back.” Sunday was the third shut out of the year for Derkacz
The Rebels currently sit in 5th place with a 3-2-3 record with two games to go.
The Rebels men’s team split their weekend games, first losing to Pilots 4-0 on Saturday, but rebounding to defeat the Cougars 4-3 on Sunday. Kamhbir Singh Sihn led the Rebels with 2 goals, while Valeriy Kornilov and Johnson Adzotor each added a single score. The men’s team is also in 5th place in the MCAC with a 2-1-5 record.
Both teams finish their regular season this weekend, facing the BU Bobcats in Brandon on Saturday, then hosting the CMU Blazers on Sunday, with the women’s match at noon, men’s at 2pm.
Finally, the Rebels women’s vball team also competed in an exhibition tournament this past weekend at Dakota College in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. Results below:
