Rebels men’s and women’s soccer teams faced a pair of Westman teams this past weekend with mixed results.
On Saturday in Brandon, the women Rebels defeated the ACC Cougars 6-0. Emily Carnegie and Emma MacLennan each scored a pair of goals for the Rebels with Nina Morris and Madison Kaatz chipping a in a goal a piece. GK Brittany Derkacz earned the shut out. The Rebels were unable to earn the weekend sweep, losing to Brandon Univsersity Bobcats on a cold, wet Sunday afternoon, 1-0 at RRC. Derkacz made many terrific saves to keep the game close, but Brandon’s solid defense kept the Rebels off the score sheet. The women’s team currently sit in 3rd place in the MCAC with a 2-1-2 record.
The Rebels men’s soccer team earned their first victory of the MCAC season, defeating the Cougars 3-2 on Saturday. However, despite the best efforts of GK Liam Hodges and defensemen Alex Castro, the Rebels fell to the Bobcats on Sunday afternoon 3-0. The Rebels currently sit in 5th place with a 1-1-3 record.
Both teams next games are on Saturday, September 30th against St.Boniface. The women’s match starts at 1:00pm, with the men’s match to follow. Both games at Memorial Park in St.Vital.
