Charles Mrena Named RRC Men’s Soccer Head Coach

 WINNIPEG, MB – Red River College is pleased to announce the hiring of Charles (Chuck) Mrena as Head Coach of the Rebels Men’s Soccer team.

“Chuck is an established coach who will help provide student athletes at Red River College a great experience and will continue to build on past successes of the program as we move forward,” said Shane Ray, manager of athletics and recreation services for Red River College.

Chuck has coached soccer (football) for over 30 years.  He is a certified CSA Level 3 (Senior) soccer coach and has successfully completed the CSA Provincial Pre-B Licence assessment.  He has completed his English Football Association (FA) Level I certification, including courses in coaching of Futsal.

He has coached youth teams in Winnipeg at recreational and developmental levels, and as a Manitoba Provincial coach.  He has coached men’s soccer for over ten years from Division Three to the Premier level.  Not only have these teams been successful, they are often recipients of Sportsmanship Awards — a reflection of Chuck’s philosophy in coaching which is being competitive while being respectful of your teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials.  His experience in adult soccer includes a season as a volunteer assistant coach at a sports college in Bristol, England.

Over the past ten years, Chuck has been fortunate to receive coaching instruction from and had access to professional soccer coaches in England, Belgium, the Netherlands and France.  His other significant coaching experience is in the sport of curling where he has coached at the club, provincial and national levels and in Curl Manitoba’s High Performance Program.  Chuck is also a certified Manitoba Fitness Council Fitness Trainer, specializing in Resistance Training.

Chuck possesses a Master of Natural Resources Management degree and has enjoyed a career as an environmental and natural resources consultant.  He has worked in flood and water management and in climate change policy.  He currently is a lecturer at the Canadian Mennonite University, where he teaches courses in Human and Physical Geography, and in Environmental Science.

The Red River Rebels are the varsity sport teams of Red River College, and compete in the Manitoba College Athletic Conference (MCAC) and the Northern intercollegiate Athletic Conference(NIAC). The College fields teams in basketball (men and women), futsal (men and women), soccer (men and women) and volleyball (men and women).
