The men’s and women’s Futsal teams hosted both Brandon schools this weekend in a pair of MCAC regular season contests. The men’s team completed a Brandon sweep, defeating the BU Bobcats 4-2, Anderson Pereira, Cesar Carvahlo and Ali Castro (2) scored, and the ACC Cougars 4-2 with Pereira, Aziz Zerouki (2) and Nebojsa Stevanovic scoring for the Rebels. The women Rebels defeated the Cougars 4-2, Nadine Reimer and Lucija Golubic each scoring a pair of goals, then tied the Bobcats 1-1 with Megan Castro the lone goal scorer. The men’s team improved their record to 3-1 on the season, while the women’s team sit with a 2-1-1 tally. Both teams head to Brandon this Saturday for a pair of return matches against ACC and BU.
On Friday night, the men’s and women’s basketball teams swept the PUC Pilots at home in the North Gym. The women’s team cruised to a 73-51 victory. Guard Zera Lynn Panesa led the Rebels with 26 points, while Susie Namgung added 12 points and Lucy Golubic chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. They now sit in 2nd place in the MCAC with a 6-4 record. The men’s team defeated a pesky Pilots team 95-84, with Jon Wilner leading the way with 27 points, followed by Gliff Macalua at 22 points and Ezekiel Lerner adding 13 points and 10 rebounds. The men’s team remain in 1st place with a 9-1 record. Both teams next face the UW Wesmen at home this Saturday with the women’s game starting at 6pm.
Unfortunately the Rebels volleyball teams struggled the past weekend losing all 4 games they participated in. The women’s team fell to CMU 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-14) and PUC 3-1 (35-33, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16) while the men’s team lost to CMU 3-0 (32-30, 25-14, 25-12) and PUC 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-23). Both teams hope to rebound against the UW Wesmen on Wednesday Feb 1 at the Duckworth Centre. Their next home game is against PUC on Saturday with the women’s game starting at 1pm.
