All 6 Rebels teams were in action this week, with the North Gym hosting games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Friday night at NDC, the women’s basketball team gave the CMU Blazers their first lost of the season, winning 66-55. Zera Lynn Panessa lead the team with 19 points and 3 assists. Lucy Golubic had a strong game with 13 points and 5 rebounds while 2nd year guard Raven Boulanger chipped in with 13 points. The Rebels men’s basketball team completed completed the Friday sweep with a 96-75 win. Jonathan Wilner scored a sensational 38 points on 17/18 shooting. Veteran Taylor Brown scored 14 points and guard Kyle Queijo added 12 and 7 rebounds in the victory. Unfortunately both teams lost the return matches against the Blazers Saturday night at CMU, men losing 88-74 and the women failing 71-52. The women’s team sit in second place with a 5-4 record while the men’s team remain in first place with 8-1. Both teams host Providence Friday January 27th with the women’s game starting at 6pm.
Both Rebels volleyball teams struggled this weekend losing both of their games. On Friday at St.Boniface, both teams fell to Les Rouge, women 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16) and men 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-15). Saturday night at home, the Rebels were swept by the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, women 3-2 (27-25, 25-20, 24-26, 24-26, 15-8) and men 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 32-30). The women Rebels have a 5-9 MCAC record and sit in 4th place while the men’s team reside in 6h with a 1-11 record. The volleyball teams are on the road this weekend, Friday at CMU and Saturday at PUC.
Finally, the Rebels men’s and women’s Futsal teams held their 2017 home openers against the CMU Blazers on Sunday. The women Rebels fell short to the Blazers 3-2, Nadine Reimer and Julia Friesen scored for the Rebels. The Blazers completed the Sunday sweep with the men’s team defeating the Rebels 2-1, Ali Castro the lone goal scorer for the Rebels. Both teams host ACC and Brandon University this Saturday Jan 28th with game times at 11am, 1230pm, 3pm, and 430pm.
