A tough weekend for Rebels Athletics, with all four men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams failing to register a victory.
The women’s volleyball Rebels fell to third place in the MCAC standings a 5-4 record with a pair of losses on the weekend, losing to the CMU Blazers 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-23) at home on Friday and to Les Rouges of USB on the road Saturday 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-21, 25-15). The men’s team continue to look for their first win of the year, falling to CMU 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-12) and USB 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-14). Both teams head to Brandon this upcoming Saturday and Sunday to compete in the 2016 Western Canadian College Volleyball Championships hosted by Assiniboine Community College.
In basketball, both teams headed south to Bottineau, North Dakota to compete in the Cobblestone Classic, hosted by Dakota College. On Friday the women’s team fell to the Jamestown U JV squad 92-50 followed by a loss on Saturday to Dakota 59-40. The men’s team fared no better, losing to Jamestown JV 81-70 and Dakota 96-74.
Both basketball teams are busy this week, hosting CMU on Tuesday for their MCAC home opener, followed by home games against U of Winnipeg Wesmen Friday night and CMU Saturday. All nights start with the women game at 6pm, men’s game at 8pm.
