Rebels Weekend Wrap-Up: Oct 22-23

October 24, 2016

Action packed weekend for Rebels Athletics with all three 3 varsity sports in action, including volleyball home openers, basketball season opener, and soccer regular season finales.

Soccer: The women’s soccer team, defending MCAC champions, finished their regular season undefeated and secured 1st place with a win and tie this weekend. The Rebels defeated ACC on Saturday 5-0, Julia Friesen score a hat trick along with goals from Nadine Reimer and Claire Soubry. The Rebels then tied 2nd place Brandon University at home on Sunday 1-1, with Friesen scoring the lone goal. The Rebels will now begin preparations for championship weekend, facing PUC at noon on Saturday in a semi-final.

For the men’s team, a bittersweet feeling on Sunday, losing their final game regular season 3-1 to BU, Aziz Zerrouki with the goal. However, the loss was tempered with the knowledge that they return to the playoffs after a one year absence with a sparkling 6-3-1 record, and a second place finish. The Rebels will now try to earn their first MCAC championship, starting at home on Saturday at 2:15pm against CMU in a semi-final.
