Jenna Dueck and Julia Friesen, two former Niverville Panthers, will join the RRC Rebels Women’s Soccer team for the 2016 MCAC season.
Jenna played youth soccer with Niverville in the Hanover Soccer Club. She attended Niverville CI until grade 11, and completed HS at Rosthern Junior College, Sask in 2012 “to follow family tradition”. Jenna was a multi-sport athlete during HS, and helped the Panthers reach the MHSAA Provincial finals in soccer in 2010. Following HS Jenna played senior soccer with Hanover Hype in the 1st Division of the WWSL for two years before being sidelined by injury. Jenna plays defence.
Jenna was an honour roll student and scholarship winner at HS, and completed her pre-requisite nursing courses in one year at the Canadian Mennonite University. Jenna is now entering her third year of the Bachelor of Nursing program at Red River College.
Julia also played youth soccer with Niverville out of the Hanover Soccer Club. She completed HS at Niverville CI in 2012. In HS Julia was a multi-sport athlete but excelled in Soccer. She helped the Panthers reach the MHSAA Provincial finals in 2010 and 2011, was selected as an MHSAA All-Star in both of those years and was Team Captain in grade 12. She was awarded Athlete of the Year in both grade 11 and 12. Julia started playing senior soccer with Hanover Hype as an underage player at 17. During her time with Hanover Hype she was top scorer one season, and team MVP once. Julia plays midfield and forward.
After HS Julia did some world travelling, and attended the University of Manitoba for one year where she completed her pre-requisites for Nursing. Julia will be entering her first year in the Bachelor of Nursing program at Red River College.
Coach Lawrie welcomes these Panthers to the Rebels, “I observed the 2011 MHSAA final that the Panthers were in and was very impressed by the calibre of play. I look forward to seeing the contributions Jenna and Julia can make on the field. In my personal meetings with them I was impressed by their character and enthusiasm. They will be strong additions to our team chemistry.”
