The Rebels Men’s basketball team is starting to catch fire in the MCAC after defeating the CMU Blazers 92-62 Saturday afternoon in the North Gym on the Notre Dame campus. Post/forward Ezekial Lerner had a monster game, scoring 26 points along with 11 rebounds. Taylor Brown also had a strong game for the Rebels with 13 points and 8 rebounds while point guard Matt Dyck scored 14 points on 6/10 shooting. The Rebels improved their MCAC record to 2-6 with the win. The Rebels women’s team also had a strong showing against the 1st place CMU Blazers, but fell just short losing 65-62. The Rebels trailed by 11 coming into the 4th quarter, making a furious comeback down the stretch only to run out of time in the game. Guard Raven Boulanger and Forward Lindsay Young led the team in scoring with 16 points each. The loss dropped the Rebels record to 4-4 on the season. Both teams next host the PUC Pilots Friday, January 29th.
The volleyball teams split a pair of games against Universitie St.Boniface on Friday, with the women losing 3-0 (23-25,22-25,20-25) and the men winning 3-0 (28-26,25-22,25-20). The women followed that with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-10) loss to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday. The volleyball teams travel to CMU Friday, January 29th for a pair of games, then face PUC on the road on Saturday the 30th.
Finally, both Rebel Futsal teams started their MCAC regular season with a pair of games each in Brandon. The men’s team won both, beating Brandon 9-7 and ACC 14-3. The women Rebels tied Brandon 3-3 and defeating ACC 7-0. Kaelyn Vincent scored 7 goals over the weekend for RRC, while Addison Zeltins picked up the shutout. The teams travel to CMU on Tuesday February 2nd for their next regular season games.
